David, thanks for commenting. Two ways: AddtoAny has LinkedIn (even though you have to scroll down), and copy the URL; you're right, though, since LinkedIn is a great audience, I could make it even easier by having a LinkedIn button. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great article, but I note the irony that you don't offer a way to share it through LinkedIn! (Or did I miss something??)

Sandra, thanks for the update, and glad the session was useful! When you write "API code," do you refer to the Akismet API key? It's required to set up Akismet and some other WordPress plugins. If so, I don't think you are set yet unless they've very recently streamlined it. WP can be a bit confusing at times because there's wordpress.org and wordpress.com; .org is a community for extending WP. The API key is like a long password that WP assigns you when you request it. You use the same one for everything, and of course it's tied to your wordpress credentials. You copy and paste it into plugins like akismet that request it.

Try this: in your blog, go to the Dashboard (admin console) and in the left sider click "Plugins"; it'll expand, then click "Plugins" (again). The plugins screen has 3 views, All, Active and Inactive. Find Akismet. It'll probably be Inactive. If so, activate it and paste in your key. Keep it in your password manager or other safe place; you won't need it too often, but occasionally.

Hope this helps! Please write back and share your URL!

Left your 6/8/11 Northwestern webinar pumped up to try on blogging. It took me over 6 hours to create the Wordpress blog, a content strategy including Value Vectors, Categories and Tags, and my first blog post. Your guidelines have helped me come up with a ton of blog post ideas. Only thing I couldn't figure out was how to actually enter the API code on my blog based on your instructions or the ones on the Wordpress site. It seems like Wordpress did it automatically for me when I clicked on a link to request an API code, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Hi Gene, the first thing I'd do is go to "settings" (https://www.linkedin.com/secure/settings?trk=hb_acc), then "email addresses"; what is shown there? I'll bet that you have several, and the unwanted email is set to the "primary" email. You cannot delete a primary email when it is set to primary. What you can do is change the primary to your desired email address, which should then be shown on your public profile. Then you can delete the old, unwanted email.

A possible confounding wrinkle is, what email address do you use to log in? If your browser logs you in automatically, that could make it harder to get rid of that email. In that case, under settings, change your login before you do the steps I suggested above.

Please let me know if this works.

Hi -
How can I delete/edit the Public Profile email address at my LinkedIn posting page?
It currently shows an outdated email address that I cannot figure out how to change.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,

great summary... You've highlighted in this text why Twitter could replace our favorite search engine...
And for me how we could use it in our company.
Best regards.

Hi Connie, thanks for sharing your frustration. The trust factor is so hard to deal with.. most of us are honest and trying to automate, be as efficient as possible, but a few people try to abuse the system and impose that on the rest of us. I know LI receives a ton of complaints from execs that they get "spammed" so LI errs on the side of being conservative and making it more work to contact a lot of people at once. They know that if too many people get spammed, their company is in serious trouble. Their approach is the opposite of Facebook's, which might be characterized as "shoot first, aim later." LI is all about privacy, discretion and trust, even though that makes it harder for us sometimes! All the best-

Ed, thanks for writing and glad you find it useful. I'm regularly surprised by Twitter; although it usually gets lumped into "social media," I observe that it's a fundamentally different, a new mode of communication. Like the phone was. All the best-
